Last year, Cloudnosys reported an analysis on emerging research from Anthropic, highlighting how autonomous AI agents can plan, use tools, observe outcomes, and repeat actions without human supervision.

Those findings were an early signal.

The same agentic reasoning patterns that make AI useful for development and operations can also be applied offensively, to probe cloud environments, test assumptions, and adapt attacks dynamically.

The DevFest talk did not introduce a new concern. It reinforced a trajectory Cloudnosys has been tracking and reporting on.

AI Changes the Economics of Cloud Attacks

AI is neutral. Its access is increasingly democratized, and its reasoning capabilities are no longer confined to research labs.

Autonomous agents can now:

  • reason about cloud architectures
  • test identity and access assumptions
  • explore APIs and workflows continuously
  • adapt behavior based on system responses

This fundamentally changes the economics of attack.

Recent industry research shows that a majority of organizations have already encountered AI-assisted attacks, particularly in phishing, reconnaissance, and automated exploration. At the same time, rushed adoption of agentic systems has introduced new internal risks, as AI gains broader access to cloud environments without sufficient verification.

AI did not invent new vulnerabilities. It made cloud assumptions easier and cheaper to discover.

  • and what actually happens at runtime

Defenders must be able to do the same.

To make this approach tangible, Cloudnosys released VibeDefender, a free, open-source defensive agent, introduced publicly during the DevFest session.

  • understand cloud IAM and policy enforcement
  • observe live system behavior
  • produce evidence-based security findings

The tool was released openly to ensure that developers, startups, and small teams have access to modern defensive reasoning, not just organizations with large security budgets.

Cloudnosys’ Commitment

Cloudnosys remains optimistic about AI and its role in shaping modern cloud platforms.

But optimism without verification is no longer enough.

As AI accelerates both cloud innovation and attack capability, security must evolve from static controls to reasoning systems that continuously validate reality.
